Why are we changing our name?
It all started with Ed wanting to make better use of our scrap wood by making and selling smaller products in addition to our tables.. Other members of our team were kind of hesitant with this idea at first since we were so busy making tables! But last fall, we started building some smaller items in our shop including wooden trays, planter boxes, picture frames, and lanterns. Greg even designed a whole line of wooden earrings! Talk about small products! We had both heavy tables and lightweight earrings being made in our small shop! I had no trouble lifting the earrings! (Of course, the tables are no trouble for Grant and Greg to lift, being 27 and 28 years old and working out everyday!)
We sold all of these new products on our website, and also traveled througout Western NC selling earrings to many craft shops, general stores, and state parks. We drove all over the Blue Ridge Parkway, going to Grandfather Mountain and Mount Mitchell, and went to many towns - Silva, Weaverville, Asheville, Burnsville, Maggie Valley, Johnson City, Abingdon, and Bristol - to name a few. We spent hours and hours driving to find these shops. We also went to the Smoky Mountain Gift Show, where we ended up selling more of our earrings and other products across the Eastern US.
You may have seen some of our products in these craft shops while you were out searching for gifts for your family and friends for Christmas, birthdays, and special occasions, products you just can't find in the big box stores. Carefully crafted treasures that are the perfect gift for your loved one. Treasures that have been created by Artists with a passion that can been seen and felt in their products. Treasures in which true craftsmanship and quality can be found. Treasures which belong to a craft of the past, being meticulously carved, molded, cast, or other means, all created, by true artists who take tremendous pride in their craft.
Same as we do with our tables, and now we want to share with you not only our craft but also the craft of others, which we found during our travels.
Our mission is to seek out the Artists who craft these products that you love, to provide them for sell in our online store, and to ship them straight to your front door. We want to provide gifts which you can order and have available in time for the special occasions in your life.
This is why we have changed our name to Sugar Mountain Craft. True craftsmanship is our passion, and bringing it to you is now our craft.
We here at Sugar Mountain Craft also know that any success we have comes from the one and only TRUE ARTIST, our God. He uniquely made each of us, giving us our talents, and we give Him the glory for everything we do. We are nothing without Him. II Corinthians 4:7 says, "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us." We are all created by the Master Potter who has stored a treasure in each of, the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this we are eternally thankful. Jesus is our hope.
You will see many changes to our online store in the coming weeks and months as we attend festivals to find products that we love. We will be blogging our adventures and adding new products, so keep coming back to see what we are doing and keep your light shining!
